A wide range of weather conditions

Be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions. Temperatures vary with changes in elevations and seasons. Day/night temperatures may differ by more than 30 ºF. We also suggest checking current forecast for Zion National Park, Utah on the day of traveling.

Seasonal Weather

Spring
Spring weather is very unpredictable. Stormy, wet days are common, but warm, sunny weather may occur too. Precipitation peaks in March and September. Spring wild flowers bloom from April through June, peaking in May.

Summer
Summer days are hot, 95 – 100 ºF, but overnight lows are usually comfortable at 65 – 70 ºF. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from mid-July through September. Storms can produce waterfalls, as well as flash floods.

Fall
Fall days are usually clear and mild. Nights are often cool. Autumn color displays begin in September in the high country and in early November in Zion Canyon.

Winter
Winters in Zion Canyon are fairly mild. Winter storms bring rain or light snow to the canyon and heavier snow to the higher elevations. Clear days can reach 60 ºF, and nights are often in the range of 20 – 30 ºF. Zion roads are plowed, with the exception of Kolob Terrace Road, which is closed in winter. Be prepared for winter driving between November and March.
