Winter paints Zion in colors summer never sees. When snow falls, it dusts the cliffs and towers in white. Days are crisp, with January highs in the low 50s, and the long sevening make stargazing spectacular.

Winter brings Zion's wildlife into view. Mule deer and wild turkeys gather on the canyon floor and bald eagles soar along the Virgin River. The east side of the park also offers the first glimps at newborn bighorn sheep lambs.

Winter in Zion moves at your speed. Linger at Emerald Pools. Wander the Riverside Walk. Stroll the Pa'rus Trail along the river. Take the long way, and let the canyon settle in.

In winter, you can drive the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive in your own car, no shuttles needed Stop at any overlook and stay as long as you like. Winter also has its own Angels Landing permit lottery, your best shot at a permit all year.
