Weather Overview
Zion’s weather and temperatures change dramatically from day to night, season to season, and depending on elevation. Day and night temperatures may differ by more than 30 ºF! Please bring layers and be prepared for shifting weather. Distant rain can also cause flash flooding in Zion’s canyons. Please check the regional forecast before attempting the Narrows or other canyon hikes.

The Wild Season
Spring
From violent storms to sunny afternoons, spring weather is unpredictable. Spring precipitation typically peaks in March, which, as the saying goes, brings April flowers. Spring wildflowers tend to peak in May and fade by late June.

Hot & Cold
Summer
Hot days and cool nights are hallmarks of summer in Zion. Expect daytime temps in the 95–100 ºF range and overnight lows to dip into the 60s. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from mid-July through September. Storms can produce waterfalls, as well as flash floods.

The Mild Season
Fall
Fall usually brings clear, mild days with cool nights. Autumn color displays begin in September in the high country and in early November in Zion Canyon.

Be prepared for winter driving between November and March.
